St. Nicholas Calms the Storm

Russian, 16th century
Art Museum of Nizhny Novgorod

Because St. Nicholas is in the ship we may assume that the episode illustrated is one of those in which he was traveling between Myra and Jerusalem (Falcone 10-12, 13-14). In those episodes, it should be emphasized, it is not Nicholas who calms the storm. Rather, he leads the others in prayer to God, and it is God who answers their prayers.
